Ready for a summer with Oprah’s Book Club? The 115th selection for the long-running club is The River Is Waiting by Wally Lamb. It’s the latest book by the author and the third time Lamb’s had his book highlighted by Oprah.

“I know many of you might remember that Wally and I go way back because I picked his very first book in 1997 for my Book Club [She’s Come Undone], and then I chose his second book the next year [I Know This Much Is True],” Oprah said during her announcement. “And now, with The River Is Waiting, we’ve selected three novels by the same author, and that should tell you all you need to know about what I think of this truly masterful and beloved writer.”

The River Is Waiting follows Corby, a young new father as he struggles with addiction and the loss of his job, all of which have made his marriage difficult. Then Corby causes a tragedy that tears the family apart and lands him in jail. It’s difficult behind bars, and though his circumstances are challenging, he finds hope in the prison librarian, those sitting beside him, and his mother who continues to have faith in his future.

Only three other authors have appeared on Oprah’s list three times: Toni Morrison, Marilynne Robinson, and William Faulkner.
