After an accident that nearly kills her, Emily and her husband, Freddie, move from London to a beautiful country house called Larkin Lodge. The house is gorgeous, but to Emily, something about it feels deeply wrong. Emily starts to believe that the house is being haunted, though she can find no evidence of a wrongful death. Freddie doesn’t notice anything odd and is happy with their chance at a fresh start. As bizarre events pile up and her marriage starts to crumble, Emily becomes obsessed with discovering the truth. But if the house has secrets, so do they. And they live here now. |
We have some repeat action from last week in today’s lineup: Emily Henry’s Great Big Beautiful Life is once again on all five bestseller lists, and the deluxe edition of Remarkably Bright Creatures is still doing numbers. People really love those sprayed edges!
In books that made it to four bestseller lists, all three are titles appearing for the first time: My Friends by Fredrik Backman, Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry, and The Tenant by Freida McFadden. No real surprise at Backman and McFadden, whose titles reliably land them on bestseller lists at this point. Devney Perry may be new to this list, but not to publishing, with over 50 romance novels to her name! Her romantasy Shield of Sparrows, also in a deluxe limited edition, has comps to Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros (I see you, marketing people) and is already in development with Amazon MGM with a script from John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad.

As always, this list lacks diversity on many levels, including being disproportionately (and this week, entirely) by white authors. Some Indie Bestsellers you should know about are Matriarch by Tina Knowles, Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar, and The Book of Alchemy by Suleika Jaouad.
To get these numbers, we look at The New York Times, both Combined Print & E-Book Fiction and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction lists; Amazon Charts, both Fiction and Nonfiction; Publishers Weekly and USA Today; and Indie Bestsellers, Fiction and Nonfiction, both Paperback and Hardcover. New additions to the list this week are bolded.
