The First Book Flown to the Moon

For the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, Alyssa Lukpat at the Boston Globe writes about the tiny book Buzz Aldrin took with him on the history-making voyage. The book, an autobiography of Robert Goddard, was brought along in honor of the father of modern rocketry, who also happened to teach Edwin Aldrin Sr. “The book was published after Goddard’s death, ‘but I think he would be happy it was published and the fact that it went to the moon would be absolutely incredible for him,’ Williams said this week as the 50th anniversary of the moon landing approached on Saturday.”
