The Most Read Books on Goodreads This Week

Share

This week’s most read books on Goodreads look pretty similar to last week, but we do have a new title included—and it immediately shot to the #1 spot. Can you guess what it is? That’s right, it’s Emily Henry’s newest: Great Big Beautiful Life. Unlike Emily Henry’s previous bestsellers, this one leans more towards general fiction than romance.

To add some variety to this list, I’ve included the top five most read books in countries across the world. Today, we’re taking a look at the reading taste of Goodreads users in Brazil, India, and Ireland. There is overlap with the worldwide picks, but there are also some unique titles, like A Cabeça do Santo (The Head of the Saint) by Socorro Acioli in Brazil and The Secret Room (Maeve Kerrigan #12) by Jane Casey in Ireland.

But before we dive into the most popular reads of the moment, let’s talk about a couple of new books out this week you should know about.

Two New Books Out This Week You Should Know About

Unfortunately, the most read books on Goodreads tend not to be diverse by any definition of the word. So, here are a couple of new books out this week that deserve wider readership.

Old School Indian by Aaron John Curtis

You’ve seen many coming-of-age novels by now, I’m sure, but have you ever seen a coming-of-middle-age one? In Curtis’s debut, Abe Jacobs is a 43-year-old Ahkwesáhsne man who begrudgingly returns to the reservation where he grew up after more than 20 years. The reason for his return? Doctors have told him he’s dying, and he’s decided on the way treatment he never thought he would: a healing at the hands of his unceremonious, recovered alcoholic great uncle Budge. Now, he remains skeptical of being healed, but in his exploring it, there’s a seed of hope. Through witty lines and the musings of Abe’s poet alter ego, Dominick Deer Woods, we see him confront all those things that kept him away from his home for all that time. —Erica Ezeifedi

cover of Kiss Me, Maybe by Gabriella Gamez

Kiss Me, Maybe by Gabriella Gamez

When The Next Best Fling came out last year I knew I was going to have a new favorite author, but that was sealed when I saw the cover for Kiss Me, Maybe. Not just for the cover (though I mean, LOOK at it!), but also because of the indication of who the next protagonist was going to be, and I was excited AF to read her love story. Asexual librarian Angela has never been kissed. When she posts something declaring so on social media, she accidentally goes viral, leading to a scavenger hunt where the winner gets her first kiss. And who’s there to help her out? Bartender Krystal, who Angela has had a longtime crush on. But she’s off limits and uninterested in love. Right? — Jessica Pryde
