The Most Read Books on Goodreads This Week

Share

The most read books on Goodreads this week include some overlapping titles from last week, but we also have a couple of new entries: King of Envy by Ana Huang and The Tenant by Freida McFadden. King of Envy is the fifth book in the popular steamy billionaire romance series Kings of Sin, while The Tenant is the newest release from the reigning queen of thrillers, Freida McFadden.

This is the first week in quite a while that doesn’t have any Empyrean books represented in either the Goodreads top five or the top ten bestselling books. With no release date announced for the next volume, the series is no longer the buzziest of the moment. We’ll see if the fourth book reignites the hype.

Two New Books Out This Week You Should Know About

Unfortunately, the most read books on Goodreads tend not to be diverse by any definition of the word. So, here are a couple of new books out this week that deserve wider readership, both recommended by Erica Ezeifedi.

Can’t Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan

I’ve been seeing the books within The Skyland series being talked about everywhere. I’ve even read the book that came before this one in one of my book clubs. Though this is the third in the series, you don’t really need to have read the previous two, since these follow a new woman each time. This one in particular is about Hendrix Barry, her friend group’s entrepreneurial member who has a dream life—which has meant sacrificing romance. But then she meets the knee buckle-inducing tech mogul Maverick Bell at a party, and it has her rethinking things. He’s not exactly who she should be with to stay on her life’s path, but we also know that “shouldn’ts” make things even more alluring.

The Emperor of Gladness cover

The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong

Bestselling and award-winning poet-turned-novelist Ocean Vuong’s latest looks at found family, survival, and second chances. One summer evening, 19-year-old Hai stands atop a bridge, ready to jump, when Grazina, a dementia-stricken elderly widow, talks him into going down another path. So begins the pair’s journey together, which involves Hai becoming Grazina’s caretaker and him reckoning with himself and his place in his community. Zooming out, we see what it means to live in the margins in America, and how loneliness, love, and labor are foundational to this society.

#5:

King of Envy cover

King of Envy by Ana Huang

In this steamy romance series, “bad boy billionaires must atone for their sins in order to earn their love stories.” King of Envy follows Vuk, a reclusive billionaire in love with his friend’s fiancée. What he doesn’t know, though, is that their planned marriage is just a business arrangement, and Ayana is falling for Vuk, too. King of Envy was read by more than 17,000 Goodreads users this week, and it has a 4.1 average rating.

#4:

Say You'll Remember Me cover

Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez

This is the newest romance novel from the author of Just for the Summer. It follows Samantha, who has a perfect, endless date with handsome Greek veterinarian Xavier. Then Samantha admits that it can only be for one night because her family is in crisis. Despite the distance, though, neither of them can forget the time they spent together. More than 17,000 Goodreads users read it this week, and it has a 4.1 average rating.

#3:

The Tenant cover

The Tenant by Freida McFadden

McFadden has been a familiar name in this feature ever since The Housemaid exploded onto the bestseller lists. In her newest thriller, Blake and his fiancée rent out a room in their house to a new tenant. Soon, strange things start happening around the house, and the neighbors begin treating them differently. This one has been read by over 27,000 Goodreads users this week, and it has a 4.0 average rating.

#2:

sunrise on the reaping book cover

Sunrise on the Reaping (The Hunger Games #0.5) by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games series is still just as relevant (if not more so) than it was when it started more than 15 years ago. Collins’s latest, which tells Haymitch Abernathy’s story, also sold 1.5 million copies in English in its first week. It was read by almost 29,000 users last week and has a 4.6 average rating.

#1:

great big beautiful life book cover

Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry

Emily Henry is a staple author on the bestseller lists and the Goodreads most read list, so it’s no surprise to see her newest title shoot to the #1 spot. It follows two writers competing to write the official biography of a reclusive heiress. It was read by 36,000 users and has a 4.1 average rating.
