Sunday 2nd December

Our event of the day is the Premier League fixture between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium. A much-anticipated fixture on the football calendar, the North London derby never fails to disappoint. As these teams meet for the first time this season, Arsenal sit 5th, desperately trying to stay competitive against the dominance of teams such as Liverpool and Manchester City. Meanwhile, Spurs sit in 3rd, coming into the game invigorated by a win against European giants Inter Milan in the Champions League. Be sure you don’t miss what is set to be yet another exciting instalment of this rivalry. The North London derby is one of the best in football. Dating back to 1909, it has always been closely contested and neither team has enjoyed true dominance in the rivalry. However, Spurs have struggled on the road as of late, only recording a single win in their last twenty-five away games against the Gunners. That said, they have been strong in away fixtures this year, winning 12 of their 17 games away from Wembley in 2018, including winning 7 of 8 away fixtures this season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal has struggled in general against their rivals, only winning one of their last eight games against Spurs. This will also be Arsenal manager Unai Emery’s first league game against their north London rivals. Only two of the last nine Arsenal managers have won their first league game against Spurs. This season, Arsenal have been the victims of bad luck. A record of 8 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses, as well an 11-game unbeaten domestic streak that stretches back to mid-August, is only good enough for 5th place in the Premier League. While Liverpool and Manchester City’s unbeaten seasons have denied them the top spots, 3 draws in their last 5 games have meant that they also sit behind Spurs and Chelsea. However, they come into today’s games with a well-rested squad, after Emery fielded a young, inexperienced squad in a mid-week Europa League win over Vorskla Poltava. Spurs, on the other hand, continued their good form from recent seasons. They sit in 3rd, with a record of 10 wins and 3 losses. They enter this game with a 4-game winning streak, having last lost, to Manchester City, at the end of October. Arsenal versus Spurs is always an exciting match, so be sure you don’t miss it.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the NFL, where the Pittsburgh Steelers host the San Diego Chargers. The Steelers, after a slow start to the season, have risen to a 7-3-1 record thanks to a number of impressive victories  However, as much as they flirt with success, they continue to drop must-win games, putting a serious playoff run in doubt. Meanwhile, after being one of the weaker teams in the league for a number of years, the Chargers have broken out as a serious playoff contender. They are 8-3 and look ready to reach the postseason for the first time since 2013. This is a game between two hungry teams, eager for success, so be sure you don’t miss it. Elsewhere, in the Scottish League Cup, Celtic plays Aberdeen in the final of the competition at Hampden Park in Glasgow. In the NBA, the Miami Heat hosts the Utah Jazz at American Airlines Center. In the NHL, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Calgary Flames at United Center.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
