Art history majors are thrilled that ‘Animal Crossing’ gives them a chance to shine

Animal Crossing‘s April 23rd update brought some significant changes to Nintendo’s massively popular home loan payoff and friendship simulator, not least of which was the addition of an art gallery to the game’s stately museum. 

As in previous games in the series, players can fill the art gallery by purchasing individual paintings and sculptures from Redd, the wily fox smuggler. Some of Redd’s art is counterfeit, however, and it’s up to the player to examine the goods before they buy to avoid being hoodwinked. But how would an average person know how to spot fake art with a passing glance?
