With over a million users and makers, Arduino is one of the most popular open source electronics platforms for IoT devices. With a simple and accessible approach, Arduino allows beginners and experts to develop and manage all kinds of applications. This week, Arduino is putting an explicit focus on the Internet of Things with the Arduino IoT Cloud!

Now in public beta, the Arduino IoT Cloud is a platform for developing, managing, and deploying IoT applications. It follows Arduino’s easy-to-use format, giving developers of all experience levels the ability to make IoT apps for any kind of use case.

The Arduino IoT Cloud simplifies the process of creating a fully functional IoT device. Programming an IoT device can be fairly laborious; you can turn an Arduino board into a working device in as little as five minutes. How?

To start, Arduino boards generally require devs program them with code entered via a sketch. The Arduino IoT Cloud takes care of that, automatically generating a sketch when a new thing is set up. Just plug your new board into your computer and connect it to the IoT Cloud. Then, add properties. All you need to do after that is edit and deploy your sketch. Your IoT device is good to go!

Additionally, the Arduino IoT Cloud comes out of the box with automatic dashboard generation, Webhooks support, and full TLS secure transport. Developers can log, graph, and analyze sensor data, trigger events, and automate whatever they need to!

Makers can create local IoT nodes that are compatible with other pieces of hardware, software, and cloud systems. In particular, this includes things like HTTP REST API, MQTT, Command-Line Tools, Javascript, and Websockets.

Although IoT is somewhat infamous for its lax data security, Arduino IoT Cloud devices are secured using X.509 certificate-based authenticationzs.
