Eddie Murphy hangs with Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and Tracy Morgan on ‘SNL’

Eddie Murphy’s Saturday Night Live monologue turned into a sharp reminder of the influence he’s had. He left the show in 1984, but the four years he spent there remain some of the show’s funniest and best-remembered. And of course, Murphy’s work before, during, and after his run on SNL delivered formative lessons in comedy to a number of other legendary black comics.

A few of those greats joined Murphy during his monologue, as Tracy Morgan, then Chris Rock, then Dave Chappelle all stepped out to say hi and crack jokes. (Kenan Thompson too, briefly!) It’s good stuff, seeing these multi-generational talents – “half of Netflix’s budget,” as Chappelle points out – celebrate their success on one of TV’s biggest stages. Read more…
