Back in 2017, the in-memory computing platform company Hazelcast made a big shift and joined the Eclipse Foundation. Now, a year and a half later, they’ve announced another big step: the general availability of Hazelcast Cloud.
When we spoke to CTO Greg Luck about Hazelcast in 2017, he said, “as a company we are fully committed to driving adoption of open standards, along with ensuring Java remains the premier enterprise software platform. Hazelcast was the first open source in-memory data grid, introduced in 2008 under an Apache 2 license.”
Time to look at the new innovation from this powerhouse of a platform that will save you time and headaches.
Cloud-based web services
Hazelcast Cloud combines three powerful technologies that you probably already know and love using: Hazelcast IMDG, Kubernetes, and Docker. The familiarity makes it easy to use and adopt right out of the box, without much new knowledge.

Hazelcast IMDG provides users a low-latency, high throughput distributed data and caching layer, whereas Kubernetes provides dynamic orchestration and Docker provides containerization. Hazelcast brings these solutions together to transparently provide a serverless Hazelcast IMDG service for your cloud-native applications.

One of the benefits of using this service is the hands-off approach. Users can feel safe knowing that they don’t need to update software themselves. Software will update without any downtime. In the future, Hazelcast Cloud will supported several major cloud providers. The current roadmap includes expanding their scope to Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform. For now, current availabilities include the free and paid version for AWS.
Future higher availability options will also come soon as well as a dedicated infrastructure.
