‘Moon Knight’s’ end credits may hint at a huge finale twist

Who doesn’t love the moon? It’s big, it’s glowy, and it’s ruled by a rude Egyptian bird who turns his favorite men into immortal mummy heroes. Or at least it does in the MCU. That’s how we get Moon Knight, but it also may be how we get a huge finale twist and a new Marvel antihero in the Disney+ series.

In an interview with Mashable, executive producer Grant Curtis mentioned that there’s something going on with the moon in Moon Knight:

“If you are a fan of the moon, a fan of those different phases and looks, I think you’re going to love picking this show apart. No spoilers, I won’t say too much from there…I can tell you this. We’re telling little stories within the phases of the moon. I’ll leave it at that, that’s probably too much right there.”

Insofar as we can tell from the Moon Knight credit moon is that it’s waxing, going from a thin waxing crescent in Episode 1, a slightly larger waxing crescent in Episode 2 (in real life the moon only has one waxing crescent per phase but we’ll let it slide), a half moon in Episode 3, and a gorgeous waxing gibbous moon in Episode 4.

At this rate, the moon is set to be full by Episode 5…or they’ll fudge it like they did with the two waxing crescents and shove in a fake phase to save the full moon for the finale.

Thing is, if they do want to save something big for a full moon finale, there’s another Marvel antihero waiting in the wings to make a surprise cameo. That character is Werewolf By Night, a.k.a Jake Gomez/Jack Russell, and anyone would be forgiven for forgetting that he’s already cast in the MCU and set to debut later this year.

Powerhouse Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal will play Jake Gomez, aka Werewolf By Night in Marvel’s 2022 Halloween special. Historically, the Werewolf has also been a mantle taken up by a few characters. When they transform, some have power over the moon, but others are helpless in the face of the full moon. The Jake Gomez version of the character can transform at will, but considering the character’s deep connection to Moon Knight, that may be retconned to bring the two heroes closer together.

Notably, Moon Knight as a character first appeared in Marvel comics in Werewolf By Night #32 as a part of the Werewolf’s standalone run. Moon Knight later got his own comic series with his popularity eventually eclipsing (get it?) that of the wolf who started it all.

‘Moon Knight’ episode 4’s ending changes everything

It would make a lot of sense and be a bit poetic for Moon Knight to debut Werewolf By Night in the MCU. If anything, it could be a great way to generate hype for a character most MCU fans aren’t familiar with before he howls his way into his own streaming special this Halloween.

Moon Knight is streaming on Disney+.
