The organizers behind San Diego Comic-Con, one of the largest pop culture conventions in the world, announced that the 2020 event has been cancelled in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.

A press release on their website describes the decision as one made with “deep regret” and states that SDCC will resume in 2021. This is the first time in the convention’s 49 years of operation that SDCC (previously called the Golden State Comic Book Convention) will not run as scheduled; this year would have been the convention’s 50th anniversary.
