So, Netflix’s ‘The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window’ looks bonkers

From The Girl on the Train to The Woman in the Window, crime thrillers have a long-held tradition of introducing female protagonists through comedically mundane titles. Netflix’s The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window takes that up a notch — or twenty.

Kristen Bell stars as the unlucky in love Anna in the bonkers-looking new satirical drama miniseries. Struggling with murky mental health issues and loneliness, Anna spends her days perched by the window mainlining merlot. Until one evening, she witnesses a murder because of course she does! Or wait…did she?

From creators Rachel Ramras, Hugh Davidson, and Larry Dorf, this Netflix psychological mystery takes place across eight thirty-minute episodes intended to be watched straight through. The trailer makes it hard to suss out what path the story will take, but its goofier moments promise something special for lovers of booze and true crime.

“I just feel like I’m falling apart, like a house of cards,” Anna muses, in the stylings characteristic of a trashy murder novel. “Like a sandcastle and the tide has come in…like a rickety chair…like an old…jalopy, I don’t know.”

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window hits Netflix Jan. 28.
