Node.js 11 is here!

It’s been six months since Node.js 10 was released so if you’re hungry for something new, good news: Node.js 11 is here.

This release is all about improving internals, performance, and an update to V8 7.0. As explained in the blog post announcing the latest developments in the Node.js universe, two of the most notable features are:

  • Interval timers will be rescheduled even if the previous interval threw an error;
  • and the build no longer supports FreeBSD 10.

GitLab 11.4 brings a truly extensive list of major updates and tons of new improvements. What’s more, the newest release brings a couple of deprecations that you should keep an eye on.

Eclipse MicroProfile 2.1 arrived

Eclipse MicroProfile is here with the eighth release. MicroProfile 2.1 continues to be based on Java EE 8 as the foundational programming model for the development of Java microservices and features an update for the Open Tracing API.

The updated version for the Open Tracing API brings logging exceptions thrown by explicit instrumentation, server operation name provider, and support for server side skip pattern among other things.

Angular v7 is here but 7.1.0 is already breathing down its neck

It’s been a bit more than a week since Angular v7 was released and we’re still in celebratory mode. We’ve got interesting articles and interviews in the pipeline so you can imagine our shock when we saw that the beta phase for 7.1.0 has already begun.

Meet Kaili — A service mesh observability tool

According to the project’s website, “Kiali works with Istio [ in OpenShift or Kubernetes] to visualise the service mesh topology, features like circuit breakers or request rates. Kiali also includes Jaeger Tracing to provide distributed tracing out of the box.”
