For readers, summer is more than just a chance to spend time outside, eating ice cream and watching fireflies…it’s also a time to work through their highly anticipated summer books to-be-read pile. Whether your summer adventures take you to the ocean, a lake, or just outside your office for a lunch break, summer reading is a special season to enjoy, and the sunshine and warm weather beckon readers to get outside with a good book. Whether you use the summer season to read the latest book from a favorite author, dive into a beloved genre, or read something entirely new, summer is a great time to dive into your reading habit (or start a new one!).

To help you embrace the season, I’ve rounded up some beach reading essentials to make your summer reading time comfortable and easy, leaving you free to pick out the books you plan to read this season. There are beach towels for those of you reading by the water, hats to keep the sun out of your eyes, and bookmarks to make sure you can save your place during swimming breaks. Even if you’re mostly stuck inside, you can find prints, paintings, and candles to help set the scene for summer reading.

Here at Book Riot, we just dropped our ultimate list of the Best Beach Reads of All Time, so check that out for the ideal beach reading experience.
